Vote for our 2023 SXSW EDU sessions!

Your vote decides if Participate Learning presents at SXSW EDU 2023!

Participate Learning is currently under consideration to present at SXSW EDU. But, we need your help! Along with two teacher partners, we’ve applied to host two sessions at SXSW EDU 2023. If chosen to speak at the event, these dynamic duos will share their ideas and provide a space for educators to talk about how global learning can empower students and transform schools. Presenting at SXSW EDU 2023 is an opportunity to share stories and engage with participants about how they, too, can change the world, one classroom at a time. #GlobalLeaders & the SDGS: A PBL Design Sprint

In this interactive session, Participate Learning’s Ashley Solesbee partners with Ana Herrera, a second grade dual language teacher at Bethany Elementary School in Rockingham County Public Schools, NC, to speak about engaging students in Global Action Projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Utilizing design thinking tools like rapid ideation, a PBL planning template, and Participate Learning’s Global Competencies, participants will create an activity that empowers their students to become #GlobalLeaders who can pay attention to global issues in their local community, feel connected to their responsibility to do something about it, and take action to make both their local community, and the world, a better place.

Takeaways from the proposed session include:

  • Implementing design thinking tools, such as rapid ideation, and a PBL planning template, to build a Global Action Project for their school.
  • Utilizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a PBL Global Education teaching tool in their classroom.
  • Learning to use Global Competencies as a social emotional learning tool to inspire students to be #GlobalLeaders who can change the world.
